The Esteemed Vassals of their Royal Majesties, Baron and Baronowa Mechalik of Illiton invite all fighters of renown to attend Thier tournament of the Dove upon the day of April 10 2010.
Come and show to them the strength of your inspiration. Come and display before the Gallery your prowess and Honor. Hazard to test your mettle before the assembled company at arms to win an
honorable prize to be given the Gentle who wins this Passage.
Such an honor shall not be easily won, Goodly men at arms shall test their strength and heart before their Excellencies, the Constable and their Inspiration through their Honor and prowess upon this field, hazarding three courses of three.
Good gentles, prepare your Harness, Your Livery, and your Banners. Hone your skill at arms, Look to your Inspiration and present yourselves on this field on this day of April, 10 2010.
Tournaments
Goodly Nobles of coat armor, I urge you to take the field before the Barrier of our 6 Tennans, in formly fashion of 6 rows, bringing with you three knightly weapons to test your skill against our Tennans with matched weapons. Venans must choose a Tennan of similar weapons to a course of three counted blows. A cord shall be placed on the ground of three steps. Should you step beyond this
measure you forfit your course. After a time we will quit the field and refresh ourselves.
After taking pleasant refreshment we will again take to the field in arms and armor.
This portion of the tournament is for Friendship and Honor. we will pair up acording to the count in two's and three's. This will be a resurrection tournament having a Banner at one end to rally to upon loosing a course. After reaching the banner one must yell out his/her battle cry, or boast, each time you visit the banner you must use a different battle cry or boast. never useing the same battle cry. Within this portion of the tournament in pairs you must use matched weapons with any opponant you find. (you may change weapons at any time.) Your choice of weapons must be Single hand weapon with shield, two handed mass weapon and Spear. This will be considered a Tournament and not melee but all Melee rules will apply acording to Kingdom
rule. Mind yourselves we are not fearful creatures to strike another from behind, we face our opponant with bravery and honor.
Once again we will quit the field to refresh ourselves and take time to adjust our kit.
After the break we will again take to the field. this portion will be of single combat, mixed weapon and to a show of skill, It was common to boast loudly of ones skill, to call upon another to a test of arms. a fait of arms. Boast loudly of your prowess with respectful friendship and honor toward each other. This
would be an opportune time for the gallery to place bets and make claims of a fighter. The Gallery can request of two Gentles to perform a deed of arms. One may carry his/her banner to the list and fight under. This will continue till all are tired and much fun has been had, or untill the Martial gets tired.

The Gallery will choose from all Noble combatants a winner, this will be solely upon Prowess and Honor. Our Barons of Illiton will head up the Gallery.

RAPIER
Our morning rapier tournament will be held from
10 a.m.-noon. This round robin tournament will find the winner with the most wins during
this time period.
Our afternoon rapier melee tournament will feature teams of three rapier combatants who may form ahead of time or on the field that day. Prizes will be awarded for both Tournaments. Warder Mairie Ingen Dauith martial.

War Maneuvers - Utilizing the Midrealm War Manual written by Denewulf Haakonsson and with the permission of Red Company, the class will be reviewing practical tactics that will be used at Pennsic War. Class facilitators will cover Army organization, battlefield operations, and tactics. While the teachers have permission to share this information, the class facilitators are not members of the Red Company.
Courtly Love and its Dangers- Illiton's Pursuivant Lord Siegfried will be teaching a PG13 review of the concepts and practices of love, marriage, and sex in period.
Period Japanese Food - Foxvale's own Yamamura Kitsune Gozen will give an overview of Japanese cuisine including different cooking styles, native ingredients, and a sampling of onigiri (rice balls), which will include a recipe handout.
10:00-11:00 a.m.
Stump-Work, (3-D Embroidery)-A type of raised embroidery popular between the 15th and 17th centuries, this Embroidery style is characterized by elaborate designs padded with wool or hair. Elayne Thorne will be your facilitator.
Making Pilgrim's Pouches-Medieval Leather will be featuring a Pilgrims Pouch class. Participants will learn basic cutting and sewing of leather. Each person will build their OWN pouch when all is said and done! There is a $10 charge for materials in this class.
Youth Theater Class-Baile na Scloairi’s own Catalin Zoldszem will be leading our SCA youth in a number of period Theater games that include “The Duck Game”. Ages 8 years old and up are invited to attend.
11:00-12:00 noon
Chatelaining for the Non-Chatelaine - Facilitator: Hillary of Langeforde (Middle Kingdom Chatelaine) and Alexandra of Foxvale. This class will discuss ways in which chatelaines, seneschals and local members can grow their numbers and then retain and educate the new people whose interest they gain. The class will also discuss why this is so important to all of us within our society.
Happy Japanese Games - Fun for all ages, this class given by Yamamura Kitsune Gozen will review three period Japanese games that are easy to learn and fun! Class of course will include time to play! Bring the kids and plan now to attend.
Yeastie Beastie- Second only to the Bee, exploring the different types, their life cycle, and what we want them to accomplish.
How to Sew for the SCA: Sewing Notions and creating a sewing kit- Are you intimidated by sewing and all the sewing notions available? This class will cover the basics of the essential sewing tools, which sewing tool is right for which project, and how to use the tools. Will also include information about period sewing tools. Beginning sewing kits will be available for $10.
Cost: Optional sewing kits for $10

Couching, (Embroidery)-Couching and laid work are techniques in which yarn or other materials are laid across the surface of the ground fabric and fastened in place with small stitches of the same or different yarn. The couching threads may be either the same color as the laid threads or a contrasting color. When couching threads contrast with laid threads, patterns may be worked in the couching stitches. This class is for the youth of the SCA. Elayne Thorne will be your facilitator.
Beginning Illumination Class-Geared to getting people started who have never made a scroll before; this hands on class will focus on illumination only. Participants will be working with paints and other simple materials to make their scrolls.
Mead Made Simply- Introduction to making a one gallon batch of mead with items purchased on your next trip to the grocery store. No fancy carboys, airlocks, special yeast strain, or cleaners required.
The Games of Tables-Backgammon is the descendent of a family of games that thrived in the Middle Ages. Spanning the world like few other games. Learn about the history, spread, and variation, of Tables. Louis Xavier de Navarre is your host.
2:00-3:00 p.m.
What to Expect Your First Few Years in the SCA - Facilitators: Hillary of Langeforde and Alexandra of Foxvale. A roundtable question and answer session covering the interests and shared experiences of the participants. This can include but is not limited to: court etiquette, awards, arts and sciences, officer and royalty structure. Bring questions, concerns and any stories to share.
Garb and Fabric Round Table- Not a how to, but a with what... Mistress Maria Teresa will be your facilitator for this class.
Mead Made Basically- Want to know more regarding carboys, airlocks, cleaners, and other tools? Learning the basic techniques of a traditional show mead, learning use of a hydrometer, heat & no-heating methods, racking, clarifying, bottling, cleaning, and safety?
3:00-4:00 p.m.
Basics of Heraldry, Name and Device Registration- Lord Siegfried will be speaking on an overview of the rules and requirements of name and device registration. The talk will include along with an overview of the paperwork required.
Crash Course: Japanese Fashions - Yamamura Kitsune Gozen will cover the highlights of period Japanese clothing. Discussion will include covering Japanese garments from head to toe, the variations in clothing through the ages and their historical context, wearing and construction tips, along with handouts for making kosode and hakama.
Mead Made Interesting- Exploring styles beyond the traditional show mead and learn about Sack Mead, Melomel's, Cysers, Pyments, Braggots and several others. I will cover the technique of making a Cherry Melomel in depth as an example.

Midlands Camp at Pennsic-Lochmorrow's Sir Ix has requested time to discuss the Midlands Camp at Pennsic. Time is approximate.
SILENT AUCTION

As you may have heard at this time, I am hosting a silent auction at Rites of Spring to benefit an SCa family in Ravenslake. Without going into detail, significant health problems have been taking their toll on this family, as both mother and father havae been facing repeate dmajor medical issues. Due to those issues, there is an equally significant financial impact. The family of six is active within their shire and they are the kind of people you can be certain would answer this call for someone in need.
I am making a request of all those who are able. Please Donate. Please Bid.
So far we have received some cloth, a few resource books, some decorated ottery, many semi previous gems, and some other handmade jewelry. More items are needed.
Ideas for donations, include: Metal embellishments, buttons, belt or cloak clasps etc, Plumes, Cloth in natural fibers, Headwear such as weils, wimples, barbettes, hats. Medieval Shoes, Indulgence baskets such as james, jellies, cookies, soaps, candels etc. Resource books. Services...i.e. this Bard will sing for you at said event....Bladed Things, Armor Things, Archery Things...Youth Combat things. Games and Puzzles.
Please bring your items to the Spicewell's Booth at Rites and drop them off. Any item not receiving a bid will be pased on to the Ravenslake hosted Silent Auction to benefit this family planned for Border Skirmish.
